Match Report
A deserved point for the Warriors after an injury-laden performance at Ochilview Park.
This weekend we faced Queen of the South with both teams looking to add three points to their tally.
Captain, Bucky, had a special start to his weekend reaching a milestone of 50 appearances for the club, whilst new loan signing Scott Tomlinson made the bench.
The game began with an injury as Kyle Jacobs was forced off only 6 minutes in: an issue that would dominate in this fixture.
Brown Ferguson gave credit to the players after a series of changes in personnel due to injuries, “The players have had an awful lot to deal with today in respect to the changes to the team and the changes throughout the course of the game.”
Man of the match, DeeJay, was called into action in the 14th minute, when Doonhamers Captain, Douglas, looked to open the scoring with a diving header, but our goalie was more than equal to the effort.
We had a great opportunity to open the scoring two minutes later when Aitken laid the ball off to an onrushing O’Reilly, however his tame effort was an easy save.
After a series of bookings Blair Alston’s cross, though he may claim it as a shot, looked to trouble Queen’s keeper. Alston whose fantastic flick allowed him space at the by line where he crossed the ball towards the back post, nearly crept in at the top corner. Whether this was an intended shot is left to Blair Alston to decide!
Once again DeeJay was called into action as a definite goal looked to be on the horizon for the Doonhamers. Hewitt’s dangerous ball across the face of goal found McKechnie lurking at the 6-yard box, where he guided the ball towards goal, DeeJay, from out of nowhere, denied McKechnie his goal.
Half time closed what was a dominant display from the Doonhamers, however they had nothing to show for their efforts. Ferguson was under no illusion of our first half performance when he stated: “We acknowledge that Queens were the better team in the first half and when we came in at halftime, we acknowledged that as a group. We had a lot of disruption in the team though.”
During halftime we were forced into double substitution due to injuries with another to follow in the second half.
We turned our performance around in the second half and showed a lot more of our quality which Brown Ferguson agrees with, “I thought we were much better in the second half and we certainly in the early part of the half were on the front foot.”
Ross Taylor looked destined to score in the 55th minute when his spectacular curling effort from the 18-yard box strayed just over the bar.
The final chance of the game came in the 84th minute when a decent cross into the box by new signing Tomlinson found Kelsey Ewen, but his header was blocked.
Ferguson gave his take of a deserved result: “I thought it was a brilliant point given what we faced today: in one the opposition, and two the circumstances throughout the course of the game”
A point from the game and a clean sheet at home, that we are definitely happy with, sets the foundation for our away day to Inverness Caledonian Thistle next weekend. Please make sure you come to support Gary and the team!

This weekend the Warriors return to Ochilview Park in search of another three points at home as they welcome Queen of the South.
This Saturday, there’s everything to play for. We are looking to extend our unbeaten at home league record whereas the Doonhamers are aiming to edge out in front at the top of the table.
We last faced the Doonhamers back in 2018 in the Irn Bru Cup when we suffered a 3 nil defeat, with goals from Lyndon Dykes and Stephen Dobbie sealing the win. Six years on and Warriors, Bucky and Jacobs, will both be aiming to steer the team to all three points against their former club.
Both Nicky Jamieson and Corey O’Donnell remain on the sidelines due to their injuries.
