Match Report

A glistening five-star Warriors’s performance in an extravaganza against a deflated Dumbarton side sealed three points in the Stirlingshire Cup.

Last night Ochilview Park was once again home to the second oldest cup in the football world, The Stirlingshire Cup. We battled it out with Dumbarton who have had a recent poor run of form.

The Warriors showcased a dominant display right from the get-go and gave Dumbarton very little chance to get out their half. Three quick goals were what separated the two sides at the break with the Warriors looking menacing going forward.

The first sign of danger came after youngster, Dean Aitken, had a cheeky cross in the opening minutes which troubled the Dumbarton keeper and nearly crept its way in at the back post.

Corey O’Donnell was quick off the mark in front of the Dumbarton goal in the 16th minute after a mix up at the back allowed Yates to latch on to a loose ball, and cross into O’Donnell who was there to blast the ball home. 1-0.

The Warriors doubled their lead in the 31st minute after Tomlinson’s cross into the box was poked home by Dumbarton defender Doyle. 2-0.

An audacious effort from Matty Yates gifted us our third of the evening. The midfielder struck the ball from at least 25 yards out and watched it sail over the Dumbarton goalie and into the net. 3-0.

We went into half time looking confident and comfortable for the second half. Gary made a few changes at half time including our fourth and final scorer, Matty Aitken, being introduced to the game. Dumbarton did pull one back, though it wasn’t enough to spur on a comeback.

The final two goals of the game came in rather quick succession of one another. Dumbarton had their first shot at goal in the 46th minute when Lynas rose highest to a corner and flicked his header in to claw one back for the visitors. 3-1.

Aitken made no mistake in finding the back of the net in the 51st minute when he tucked in his shot from outside the box, making him the top scoring player in this fixture. 4-1.

Even though we finished the game with nine men due to substitutions, the Warriors eased past Dumbarton to bag three points in the Stirlingshire Cup. Our attention now moves to the Scottish Cup on Saturday when we take on Irvine Meadow XI in the third round.

Warriors, tomorrow night we host our second fixture in the Stirlingshire Cup against Dumbarton.

Last Tuesday we battled with Falkirk in the return of one of the oldest cups in the world. We are looking to register our first win in this competition in nearly a decade against Dumbarton.

The last time we challenged Dumbarton was back in October when we were victorious in a brilliant 3-1 victory. Alston got us off the mark this day with a well struck penalty whilst Aitken bagged himself a brace to top off a well-deserved win. Aitken also now sits as the top goalscorer in this fixture with 4 goals and will be looking to add to his season’s tally.

Dumbarton have been struggling this season having only mustered three victories which have all come between October and November. Despite this run of poor form, they have been clinical between the posts having netted 19 goals this season making them the second highest scorers this season in League 1.

This is a game not to be missed and is a chance to cheer on the Warriors in their final game of the group round. Please make sure you join us at Ochilview Park tomorrow night and stayed up to date via all our social media channels.

Kick off: 7:45 26th November 2024
