Match Report

A bitter loss for the Warriors as a dominant 10 minutes from Cove Rangers seals three points for the visitors.

Despite the result today, congratulations are in order to Ross Taylor who marked a milestone 50th appearance for the Warriors. Ben Black and Scott McGill also made their home debut today as well.

The first half opened with a bang as both teams had opportunities to pull ahead, however a lapse in concentration from the Warriors resulted in a poor 10 minutes. Cove Rangers were able to triple their lead before half time.

Just 47 seconds in and the Warriors could have raced towards a quick advantage as a clever ball from Taylor allowed Black to shoot, though the keeper saved the youngster’s shot easily.

Cove Rangers could equally have opened the scoring after Glass’ shot from 5 yards out was saved brilliantly by Deejay.

The next 20 minutes became a bit of a stalemate but it didn’t stay like this for long after Emslie slid in Glass who slotted his shot into the bottom corner to give the visitors the lead in the 29th minute. 0-1.

Just two minutes later and the visitors were back in our box again. Loose play from Banner gave Megginson the chance to go 1 v1 with Deejay and the striker slotted the ball through our keepers legs. 0-2.

The tireless efforts from Cove paid off once more in the 37th minute when a well taken corner found the head of Marshall, who rose highest to meet the ball. 0-3.

The Warriors went into half time with a bit of a mountain to climb but came out in the second half and gave a better account of themselves, though they still couldn’t find a way to breakdown the Cove press. Cove, on the other hand, added a fourth goal to their tally with a peach of an effort.

Fyvie scored a fantastic goal in the 83rd minute after he curled his effort beautifully into the top corner from the edge of the box. 0-4.

This was a disheartening result for the Warriors, but we must put it behind us and look ahead to next weekend when we battle with Montrose. We hope to see as many Warriors there as possible to support the team. Stay up to date via all our social media channels.

After cup disappointment last weekend, we return to Ochilview with full attention on an already unbelievable league campaign.

The last time we encountered Cove Rangers, we registered our first away victory against the Aberdeenshire side and currently remain unbeaten against them this season. Aitken, Tomlinson and O’Donnell secured the all-important victory last time out, and we will be focusing on achieving the same result again on Saturday.

O’Donnell, who has an eye for goal, is the top scorer in this fixture with two goals in as many appearances when facing Cove. Given his scoring record against Cove this season, he will be raring to add a few more to his tally.

Warriors, we couldn’t let you forget that one of our biggest wins came against Cove Rangers back in 2009 in the Scottish Cup when we sailed to a 5-0 victory! Even more spectacularly, all 5 goals came in the first 34 minutes!

With the league table tight as ever, only four points separate 6th and 1st, so a win this weekend is essential in our push for top spot. Cove currently sit 6th in the league having regained their form. They have also only lost one of their last five games.

Warriors, your support is vital to the team on Saturday as we search for another monumental victory at Ochilview, please make sure you join us. Stay up to date via all our social media channels.
