Match Report

Heartbreak for the Warriors as the Wasps sting them for three points at home despite a dominant Stenny performance.

A goal-less first half display had Alloa on the ropes for the latter stages of the half. The visitors struggled to make any clear-cut chances, however the Warriors showed their battling strength to record multiple goal scoring opportunities.

Matty Yates had the two best chances of the half but he couldn’t apply the finishing touch.

Dazzling feet from Aitken in the 12th minute caused problems for the Alloa defence as he danced through them and laid the ball back to Matty Yates whose sweetly struck volley was saved by Wasps keeper Morrison.

The final chance of the half came as a free kick for the Warriors from 25 yards out in the 35th minute. Yates set himself up and curled a sublime top corner effort, however Morrison did well to tip his shot over.

The second half was home to another dominant Warriors display, however one fortunate opportunity for the visitors was all that was needed to seal all three points from them. Despite having a plethora of chances, we just couldn’t seek out the all important final touch.

Aitken was in and around the Wasps box again when his rocketed shot forced a save from Morrison in the 53rd minute.

Deejay was called into action a few times but nothing that would seriously trouble the Warriors keeper.

The 66th minute brought another Matty Yates chance when the midfielder skelped the Alloa bar after a loose ball.

A gut wrenching feeling was felt all around Ochilview park when the visitors broke up the pitch in the 78th minute and lofted the ball out on the wing to Luke Rankin, who drove towards the Stenny goal and rolled the ball past a wrong footed Deejay. 0-1.

Another free kick for us in the dying embers of the match surely spelled an equaliser. Top scorer Alston curled his effort for the top corner, but Morrison agonisingly got a fingertip to it.

A fearless performance from the Warriors wasn’t enough to wrap up three points, but the team will march on to Tuesday night for the quarter finals of the Trust Trophy Cup. Please join us at the Forthbank Staduim on Tuesday and show your support for the team as they take on Rangers B team.
