Match Report

This afternoon we took on Falkirk United in derby day, and what would be our final Premier Sports Cup match.

The opening 20 minutes were very subdued with neither team being able to challenge one another.

Falkirk, however, had the opening chance when in-from Morrison was one on one with Deejay, but his tame effort proved an easy save for our keeper.

Falkirk broke the deadlock when they were awarded a penalty in the 23rd minute after a late challenge on Mackie. Morrison stepped up to take the penalty for the Bairns and made no mistake in firing it home. 1-0.

Another cross in the 31st minute cut the defence open when Henderson flicked on a crossed ball to MacIver who was there to nod the ball in to double the Bairns’ lead. 2-0.

The final chance of the half came for Falkirk. It was a carbon copy of their opening chance of the game, but the same man Callum Morrison couldn’t find the goal.

An uncharacteristically poor defensive first half from us led to a disappointing second half performance that saw Falkirk extend their lead and ultimately top the group.

With only ten minutes played in the second half, Falkirk tripled their lead through MacIver again. Morrison’s shot was saved, but only cleared as far as MacIver who bundled the ball in. There were a few appeals for handball, but the referee waved play on. 3-0.

Matty Yates’ 18-yard effort may have granted us a route back into the game, however, his shot bounced wide.

The final goal of the match came for Falkirk in the 67th minute when a corner kick met the head of Henderson who powered in his header to seal the victory and top spot in the group. 4-0.

Deejay must be commended for the countless unbelievable saves he made to deny Falkirk a few more goals to their tally.

This was a difficult result to take for the team in a challenging run of fixtures. We now look to Saturday when we host Arbroath on flag day at Ochilview Park. Make sure you come and support the Warriors for the league campaign ahead.

Preview

Tomorrow, we take on rivals Falkirk in what may be our final game of the Premier Sports Cup. Falkirk are aiming for three points hoping this takes them out of the group, whereas we are looking to stop the Bairns in their tracks.

We last faced Falkirk in 2018 in the third round of the Scottish cup where we went on to triumph over the Bairns in a fantastic 4-2 victory. We need your support to repeat this historic win over the undefeated side.

Falkirk join the ranks of Rangers, Celtic and Kilmarnock for an unbeaten league season.

Both teams were recently crowned league champions in their divisions and are aiming to show their new leagues the quality they possess in this final match.

One player to watch is Falkirk’s goal machine Callumn Morrison, whose impressive tally of 23 goals for the season earned him cinch League 1 Player of the Season. He will be looking to get off the mark again in our game, definitely one to watch!

Callumn is joined in fine company by our captain Bucky who was also crowned cinch League 2 Player of the Season, after successfully leading his side to a league trophy. Bucky also scored 7 goals for the season, making him our second highest scorer.

The former Falkirk player will be looking to take his side to a victory over his previous team.

This is a game not to be missed as the Warriors march on ahead of the commencement of our league campaign. Make sure you come and support the Warriors to help us triumph over our biggest rivals.
