Match Report
A resounding Warriors performance sees us break our away record and capture the elusive first win away from home this season. A win Gary Naysmith was ‘delighted’ with.
Blair Alston and Matty Aitken’s goals made all the difference in Dumbarton and wrapped up three points on the road for the Warriors. Dumbarton did pull one back, but it was not enough to beat the unstoppable energy of the Warriors, who continued to power on against a 10-man Dumbarton team.
Gary made 2 changes from last weekend with Alston and O’Reilly replacing Wedderburn and Banner. Super keeper Deejay also made his 50thappearance for the club this weekend.
The Warriors looked strong in the opening 10 minutes and forced Dumbarton to concede a penalty, after goalkeeper Long fouled Meechan in the box. Blair Alston dispatched his penalty coolly into the bottom corner to give the Warriors a deserved lead. 0-1. It wasn’t to be Dumbarton keeper’s day after Long went off midway through the first half due to injury.
On the 38-minute mark, we struck again, this time through Aitken who opened up his scoring account for the season. A great corner by Yates found its way to Aitken who was ready at the back post to tap in his first of the season. 0-2.
Dumbarton pulled one back before the close of the half after a cross in bounced all the way to Pignatiello who headed in. 1-2.
We headed into the break with a more than deserved lead for one of our best away performances. After the restart, Alston tried the impossible after a poor clearance from Dumbarton allowed the midfielder to overhead kick the ball goal-bound, but substitute keeper O’Neill reacted well to tip it over.
The home team were reduced to 10 men, which didn’t help their search for an equaliser, after Clark was given a second yellow for dragging Aitken down outside the box.
Another sublime corner from Yates in the 79thminute allowed Aitken to grab his brace after his cute flick at the back post ensured all three points would return to Ochilview.
A Warriors’ performance to be proud of! ‘The players were excellent and a threat going forwards’ dubbed Naysmith. We now have two weeks until our next game when we return to the fortress that is Ochilview Park, where we will take on Alloa for the second time this season.
