STENHOUSEMUIR FOOTBALL CLUB

WARRIORS IN THE COMMUNITY

2016 Report

Head of Community Football

William Hoggan

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone involved with Warriors in the Community and Stenhousemuir Football Club a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
2016 has been an absolutely fantastic year for Warriors in the Community (WITC) and hopefully our report can recapture some of the excellent moments this year.

2016 saw a FVFDA League and League Cup Double from our Under 17s Community Team. (1st ever Stenhousemuir FC Community Select Team to achieve a League and Cup double). We introduced and delivered an Employment Programme in partnership with the Falkirk Council and Scottish Football Partnership called ‘Take the Lead’. With more delivery in 2017 to look forward too.

We have also delivered Free Girls football sessions in all local primary schools with Awards For All Lottery Funding. We delivered our 1st ever Walking Football Festival and Football Fans in Training Football Festival. We also have a record number of Volunteer Community Coaches in our Community Programme and record high numbers in all our Boys / Girls / Adult and Disability Programmes.

There have also been a lot of changes in 2016.

Jamie Kirk and Paul Wilson both moved on from their full time roles in the Community Programme and both are still close friends of mine. We appointed New Girls Football Coordinator Fiona Brown who has been excellent in her role. Fiona also plays for Glasgow City FC Ladies and the Scotland National Woman’s Team. Sadly Fiona will be moving on from her role in January 2017 to continue her football career in Sweden.

And the appointment of Daniel Newbigging as Senior Community coach who has been absolutely fantastic in his role at the football club.

I’m really excited and looking for to 2017 and I’m sure it will be another great year for WITC.

I would like to finish by thanking all the parents in our programme for your continued support, thank all the boys, girls, men and woman who take part in all our programmes and massive thanks to all our Community Coaches and Volunteers for their hard work and effort in 2016.

Merry Christmas

Thanks Will.

Senior Community Coach

Daniel Newbigging

I’ve been working with Stenhousemuir FC, Warriors in the Community for over a month now and it has been a great experience so far.  I have met some fantastic community coaches who have helped me settle in really well.  So far I have went round some of the community select teams to get to know all players / coaches. I have so far worked with the 2010’s, 09s, 08s, 06s, 04s, and 03s.

I am also co-ordinating the adult programmes such as the mental health group and the walking football group. I have began to make some really good relationships with the groups and have even took one game with our mental health group which ended as a 3-3 draw with the Clyde Foundation. I am excited to push these programs forward and start planning for 2017.

I was excited to come in and deliver in the mini maroons programme. Before my arrival there was a lot of change of coaches. For children aged 2 – 4 years old they need consistency to be able to create a relationship with the coach but also feel comfortable and be able to enjoy themselves. I have been delivering consistently for the last 4 weeks and have got a great bond with the parents and kids.

After receiving feedback forms last week one parent said: We’ve had a few different coaches and she’s enjoyed some sessions more than others. She really likes it now Danny has started working with Stenhousemuir FC. He has a fantastic way with the kids and keeps them interested all the way through the session.

Another parent said: The sessions with Danny over the last few weeks have been fantastic – Top Class. He has the class well structured and organised. 2017 is going to be a great year for our Mini Maroons programme at WITC.

Hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. See you all in January

Thanks Danny.

Girls Football Coordinator

Fiona Brown

Working at Stenhousemuir FC this year has been an excellent experience. The professionalism of the club is something in which I was really taken aback by. Having been here as a young girl myself, I can really appreciate the development that has gone on here under Will, and now Danny. Having a club that values its community programme as much as this one does is very rare, along with the quality and number of volunteers throughout the pathway; nothing would be possible without you all.

The Stenhousemuir Girls Academy has gone from strength to strength this year. It was pleasing to see the increase in numbers in the girls programme after the Girls Only Summer Camp last August. The interest seemed to grow after the success of this camp and we saw our U11’s and U15’s continue to play weekly league fixtures, with both teams being involved in very competitive fixtures, usually coming out on top! Our U9’s formed and started playing in weekly 4v4 festivals, which was excellent for the girls to gain experience as well as have fun! Stenhousemuir FC hosted two of these festivals here at Ochilview, with numerous teams complimenting on the set up of the day as well as the top class facility.

Having received ‘Awards for All’ funding this year, it allowed me to go into the local primary schools and provide FREE Girls Only Football sessions. This proved to be a big success and in September and October over 500 girls took part in a session. This also boosted our numbers for the programme, including our Young Maroons. Next year we are hoping to have a full girl’s pathway- Young Maroons, U9’s, U11’s, U13’s and U15’s.

I want to personally thank the parents and guardians that give endless amounts of their time to this programme; this wouldn’t work without your support. It does not go unnoticed and I hope it continues next year! I’d like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year when it comes!

Lastly, I am sorry to announce that I will be moving on from my role as Girls Coordinator. However, I will not be moving on from the club entirely. I have accepted a Professional contract with Eskilstuna United, in one of the top leagues in the world. To get the chance to go away and play professional football is something I have always worked towards, so this is an opportunity I cannot pass up. I will of course stay as involved in the programme as possible- most likely planning behind the scenes or with camps when I am home!

This is a massive time for women’s football in this country, and I hope to see you all supporting us in Holland and with the games leading up to that!

Thanks again

Fiona Brown
