Match Report

The Warriors were defeated in Dumfries after a well-executed Queen of the South display.

The Warriors were coming into this game off the back of some emphatic results, but a dismal first half performance left them with work to do in the second half.

Queen of the South came out of the traps and made their mark on the game in the 12th minute with a fantastic strike from Lyon. After being gifted time on the edge of the box, Lyon thumped his shot into the bottom corner to give the home side the lead. 1-0.

There were a series of corners and free kicks for the Warriors spread out through the half, but nothing dropped for them.

After a change of shape entering into the second half, the Warriors looked a bit more like themselves and gave a second half performance that is reflective their winning ways so far. Despite this confidence turnaround in the second half, three points wasn’t to be for the Warriors and they left Dumfries will nothing to show for the trip.

Adam Brooks made sure to double The Doonhamers lead in the second half when his strike found the back of the net in the 58th minute. 2-0.

The Warriors did push on despite this knock to their confidence and found success in front of goal after a Yates free kick. Yates stepped up to take a free kick on the edge of the box and his strike was parried back out by the Doonhamers keeper and fell straight into into the path of O’Donnell who half volleyed the ball in. 2-1.

The Warriors thought they would be able to take a point back up the road when Taylor danced his way around The Doonhamers defenders but all he could do was watch as his last-minute shot sailed over the bar.

This was a disappointing away result for the Warriors, but we must turn our focus to next weekend when we return to Ochilview to take on Highland side, Inverness. Please make sure you join us next Saturday to support Gary and the boys.

Another steadfast Warriors’ performance is required this weekend if we are to remain top of the table in our final away day this side of Christmas.

This weekend we make the trip to Dumfries to face Queen of the South, who currently sit seventh in the league, having lost 5 of their last 7 games.

The last time we took on Queen of the South was at Ochilview Park back in September when the points were shared out between the two sides, with neither team able to reach for the three points.

This weekend marks the 15th time we will have battled with The Doonhamers, as we aim to register a second victory over them. The last time we were victorious was over a decade ago when edged out a 2-1 win in League 1.

Warriors, please make sure you join us in the Borders this weekend to support Gary and the boys as we strive to maintain our number one position in the league. Please remember to stay up to date via all our social media channels.
