Stenhousemuir Women 3-0 St. Mirren
Scottish Women’s League One
Ochilview Park
10.03.24
The Warriors go TOP of the league and make it seven wins in a row without conceding a goal as they smash three past St. Mirren.
Stenhousemuir’s solid winning run shows no sign of coming to an end any time soon after the Paisley side became the latest victims to Jack Cameron’s ruthless warriors.
The home team knew that a win would perch them on the top of League One albeit level on points but with a superior goal difference to Forfar Farmington.
The first half was all Stenhousemuir, and they were clinical in their attacks which saw them go three up at the break.
The first of the three came just after the quarter-hour mark; Amy McClarty sent the ball into the box from a free-kick and a scramble inside the six-yard-box led to the ball falling at the feet of Megan French who knocked it into the back of the net.
Just four minutes later, Josie Cawood picked the ball up in a nice position and drove towards goal before excellently sticking it past the goalkeeper making it 2-0.
And right on the cusp of half-time, Cawood again found herself one-on-one with the St Mirren keeper and bent the ball into the corner to send Stenhousemuir into the break with a three-goal cushion.
The second half commenced, and the away side started to show some more attacking intent and could have pulled one back ten minutes in if not for a superb save from Rosie Alexander.
There wasn’t much else to report on this second half.
Both teams battled in the middle of the park but neither showed any real threat of adding to the scoresheet.
Stenhousemuir introduced some fresh legs to see off the game which allowed some of their key players to get a well-deserved rest ahead of next week’s potential league-deciding tie against Forfar Farmington.
A stellar performance from the girls but all eyes are now on next Sunday.
