The Warriors exit the Scottish cup in the second round after being defeated 2-0 by Brora Rangers. Goals from Sutherland and Macrae see Brora Rangers progress to the 3rd round.
The Warriors were hoping to build on their 1-1 draw up in Elgin on Tuesday night whereas Brora Rangers were looking to carry on their run in the Scottish Cup after their victory against Berwick Rangers in the 1st round.
The away side had the ball in the back of the net after just 10 minutes as some good wing play resulted in the attacker slotting past the goalkeeper, but the linesman had his flag up for offside.
The Warriors grew into the game having a couple of chances, Matty Yates was one on one with Gillian, and there was a spell where Gillian had a save and Aiken hit the post.
The away side opened the scoring at 19 minutes when Sutherland scored after a corner was played in and he calmly slotted it past Darren Jameson in the Stenhousemuir goal.
The warriors continued to have chances as a Euan O’Riley cross met Matty Yates, but he couldn’t bring the ball under control.
The away side went close on 35 minutes as Brindle cut in from the left and forced DJ into a great save.
Stenhousemuir went close just before half time when a well worked move ended up with Adam Browns effort going inches wide of the post.
Brora Rangers doubled their lead on the hour mark after Adam Brown was dispossessed by Ewan who drove down the right and cut it back to Macrae who slotted home. A The Warriors had a big shout for a penalty, as the Brora defender appeared to handle the ball. A corner is given to the Warriors. From the corner, Buchanan’s header was cleared off the line
Despite subs from the Warriors, they failed to muster any clear-cut chances in the main part of the second half. Brora almost got a third late on as Tony Dingwall missed from 6 yards out.
Brora Rangers were able to defend well and see the closing stages out to win 20 and deservedly go through to the 3rdround of the cup. The Warriors now travel to Station Park next weekend where we face Forfar in the league.
