The points were shared between the Warriors and Forfar as an entertaining goalless draw was played out in front of 402 strong crowd at Ochilview.
Stenhousemuir welcomed Forfar to Ochilview for the opening matchday of the Cinch League 2 season.
The Warriors started well dominating the early stages of the match with Meechan and Brown linking up well on the right wing. We had 3 corners in quick succession. Jordan Kirkpatrick hit the side netting after a short corner.
Forfar came into the match around 20 minutes with a counter attack but Skelly fired his shot over the bar. At the half hour mark a Forfar corner went all the way across the box for no one to meet the ball giving the away side some encouragement.
Stenhousemuir ended the first half the better of the two sides dominating play and territory. Yates has a free kick that went inches wide. The Warriors had constant pressure and multiple shots blocked before Brown fired narrowly over the crossbar.
Stenhousemuir started the second half as they ended the first, dominating play. Brown smashed the post after a tidy through ball from Kirkpatrick and a series of chances from Brown and Yates followed.
Changes for both sides disrupted the momentum of the match as the game became quite stop start with both teams struggling to regain flow in the match.
Darren Jameson was forced into two fantastic late saves as first he stopped Seb Ross from close range. The second save was another chance for Seb Ross on the breakaway, but Jameson again got in the way.
Moments later, up the other end, Yates’ deflected effort goes agonisingly close as his shot smashes the post.
Both teams can come away from the match feeling that they could have gotten more than a point but can also feel fortunate not to have lost the match.
Naysmith’s men will hope to build on a good performance today as next Saturday we travel to Aberdeenshire to take on Peterhead who beat East Fife 3-0 away from home today.
