Stenhousemuir’s spirited run in the Scottish Cup has come to an end after losing out to an impressive Aberdeen side in last night’s replay at Ochilview.

It has been a Scottish Cup to remember as the Warriors entered every match as underdogs but managed to achieve results against the odds until their luck ran out against a resurgent Dons squad last night.

However, rather than be disheartened, Warriors fans should be proud of the team’s achievements throughout the competition.

Starting with a third round dismantling of local rivals Falkirk FC where the Warriors ran out 4-2 victors against their Championship opponents.  With fans chanting ‘We want five’, and Bairns fans abandoning their scarves on the pitch, the Warriors booked their place in the fourth round draw.  Later that afternoon, the Aberdeen FC ball was drawn swiftly followed by Stenhousemuir’s setting up an away fourth round match for the Warriors up at Pittodrie.

Around 300 fans made the journey to Aberdeen, all hoping that the Warriors would do themselves proud against an Aberdeen squad that had finished in the top 2 in the Scottish Premiership for the last four seasons.  Against all the odds, Stenhousemuir fought and earned a 1-1 draw and booked a replay against the Dons at Ochilview.  It also meant that the Aberdeen/Stenhousemuir ball made its way into the fifth round draw where the winner was chosen against either Queen of the South or Dundee.

The replay at Ochilview was played out in front of a full house and despite struggling against a very impressive Dons side in the first half, the Warriors were much improved in the second half and gave the fans something to cheer about when they netted home in the 53rd minute.  However, this was to be the only Warriors goal and sadly, the cup dream came to an end.

It was a great run for the club and will hopefully give the squad the added momentum it needs to continue fighting their way up the league table.  The club could not have asked for more from the Manager and his coaching team, the players, and of course, the fans.  Thank you Warriors!!!
