Stenhousemuir Football Club has received £7,085 from the Awards For All funding programme to help provide opportunities for more girls to get involved in football regardless of age or level of ability. The project will see the football club deliver free “girls only” coaching sessions in local primary schools between now and June 2016. The club will also be recruiting new coaches to volunteer within the girls section of Warriors in the Community and the funding will help support a comprehensive coach education programme for these new volunteers.
Lauren Dickson, Girls Programme Coordinator at the club had this to say about the project “We’ve reached 520 girls from 5 schools so far and it’s been great to see so many girls enjoying the game. For me the best bit about the project is providing a pathway for all of these girls to play football more often at either our Girls Young Maroons sessions on a Wednesday 4pm – 5pm at Ochilview Park or in one of our girls only teams at under 9s, under 11s, under 13s and under 15s – all of which are currently recruiting.
In addition to the new children’s activity, the funding will help us launch female only participation sessions for those over 18. We have launched a brand new Women’s Walking Football programme which takes place on a Monday evening from 5:45pm – 6:45pm at Ochilview Park and are looking at ways to engage even more people to take part.
Commenting on the award, Community Development Director Jamie Kirk said: “A massive part of the ethos of the club, and indeed Warriors in the Community, is inclusion and we are extremely grateful for the support of the Awards for All fund in our bid to get more girls involved at our club. Whether you are brand new to football, or returning, we’d love to hear from you and we always welcome new members and volunteers”.
If you’d like to get involved in any of our sessions please get in touch with Lauren directly either by email at community@stenhousemuirfc.com or by telephone on 01324 562 992.
