It is with shock and sadness that we must report of the passing of long serving Stenhousemuir fan and Club Director, Bob Hill, on Friday 28th August.
Bob had been battling cancer for many years but was not the sort to accept defeat or complain, he enjoyed life and lived it to the full, as anyone who ever had the privilege of his company will know. Yet he accepted his condition in a quiet way, saying early on that he hoped for ten more years and to see the London Olympics – thankfully he achieved both of those aims, although he deserved much more.
Sport and especially Stenny was a major part of Bob's life, he was not only a supporter and board member but a major shareholder. He knew that is was impossible to be a regular supporter living 350 miles from Ochilview but visited as often as possible and certainly put his money where his mouth was, whether it was buying shares or helping in other financial areas Bob did all he could for the club, he asked for nothing in return, all he wanted was to see the club do as well as it could and it would certainly have fared worst had he not helped out the times he did. He was also equally at home in the board room or down in the bleachers with the fans offering “useful” advice to the referee.
Football, though, was not Bob's only love, he was passionate about cricket, serving as a committee member of Gloucestershire CCC in his younger days and, in the last few years, serving on various committees and helping out at his local side, Frocester CC. He seemed unable to just join a club, he had to do something for them as well and that attitude went on to his village life, where he was happy to serve on the Parish Council.
Bob leaves behind his wife Carolynne, a brother Michael and many, many friends from a variety of sports and all walks of life.
The Board would like to pass on its deepest condolences to Bob's wife Carolynne and his close friends who are only just coming to terms with this terrible loss.
Funeral Arrangements
There will be a Humanist service for Bob at Gloucester Crematorium on Monday, September 14th at 12:30pm, followed by drinks at Frocester Cricket Club.
Bob's friends and footballing family are welcome to attend.
